Post-procedure monitoring follows the logic of "what could this specific procedure damage nearby?" After a liver biopsy, position the patient on the right side to apply pressure over the site and monitor for bleeding. After a thyroidectomy, monitor for airway compromise from swelling or bleeding, and watch for signs of hypocalcemia (accidental parathyroid disruption) — tingling, muscle twitching. After cardiac catheterization, keep the affected extremity straight, monitor the insertion site for hematoma, and check distal pulses, color, and temperature.
