Delegation & Assignment: RN vs LPN/VN vs UAP
Delegation questions test whether you know the boundaries of each role. As a rule: stable, predictable, low-risk tasks on stable patients can go to unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) — vital signs on a stable patient, ambulation, hygiene, feeding a patient without a swallowing precaution. LPN/VNs can perform tasks requiring clinical judgment within their scope — administering most oral and IM medications, reinforcing (not initiating) patient teaching, and caring for stable patients with predictable outcomes.
