Immediate newborn priorities follow the same ABC logic as any patient: dry and stimulate, maintain thermoregulation (newborns lose heat rapidly through evaporation), assess Apgar at 1 and 5 minutes (heart rate is weighted most heavily — a rate under 100 requires immediate intervention), and promote early skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding when the newborn is stable.
